BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After almost an entire month off, the No. 13 UAB bowling team hits the lanes again this weekend with a trip to Houston, Texas, to compete in the SFA Jack's Invitational.
"We are really looking forward to getting back on the road this weekend," head coach Michelle Crews said. "We have had a few weeks to recharge our batteries and refocus our minds. This will be a challenging field but I have no doubt that they are ready to rise to the occasion."
Through six tournamentS, the Blazers have amassed a 47-28 record and moved up to No. 13 in the latest National Tenpin Coaches Association Poll, the highest ranking in school history.
Taylor Russell has been the catalyst for the Green and Gold this year playing in all 30 matches and holding a team-best 209.77 average. The Mississippi native took home individual honors at the Hornet Classic and then was named to the Mid-Winter Classic All-Tournament Team after finishing third.
UAB will be in the midst of some tough competition as all 18 teams in the field are ranked including No. 1 Nebraska, No. 2 McKendree, No. 3 Arkansas State, No. 4 Vanderbilt, No. 5 Sam Houston State, No. 7 Stephen F. Austin, No. 8 Maryland-Eastern Shore and No. 9 Tulane.
The tournament begins on Friday with teams bowling five sets of five-game Baker matches at 9:35 AM. Saturday features five traditional team matches starting at 9:25 A.M. and then concludes with three best-of-seven Baker matches rolling off at 8:30 AM.
