Blazers Take Unbeaten Streak to FIU, Florida Atlantic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women's soccer team takes its six-game unbeaten streak south when the Blazers head to Miami, Fla., Friday at 6 p.m. CT to face FIU. UAB ends the weekend Sunday at 12 p.m. CT by traveling to Boca Raton, Fla., to take on Florida Atlantic.
UAB (7-1-2, 1-0-0) enters play coming off a 1-0 victory over Sept. 22 at UTEP in its Conference USA opener. Senior Rachel Green scored the lone goal for the Blazers and now ranks first in the league and 17th in the NCAA with three game-winning goals.
Green continues to serve as one of UAB's top offensive threats, ranking first on the team and fifth in Conference USA in with 12 points. The Peachtree City, Ga., native has scored five goals and delivered two assists.
Sophomore Megan Hudgens is second on the team with 11 points on five goals and one assist.
Junior keeper Kelsey Daugherty tallied a season-high nine saves at UTEP and recorded her league-leading fifth shutout of the season. Daugherty also leads Conference USA with a 0.65 goals against average and is third in the league with 54 saves.
"We are looking forward to playing against two teams that we know will be very competitive," UAB head coach Erica Demers said. "Our team had a great week of training and we are looking forward to being back on the road again."
FIU (1-5-0, 0-1-0) opened the season with four consecutive losses before posting its first win of the season Sept. 3 at Jacksonville. The Panthers, however, followed their 1-0 victory over the Dolphins with a 3-0 setback Sunday at Charlotte in their Conference USA opener.
FIU opens the weekend having only scored one goal this season while allowing their opponents to score eight. Despite having one goal to its credit, FIU does not have an individual goal because of an own goal scored against Jacksonville.
Senior keeper Nevena Stojakovic has played every minute in goal for FIU and owns a 1.33 goals against average, having allowed eight goals in six games. Stojakovic has also made 32 saves and has posted one shutout so far this season.
Florida Atlantic (6-4-1, 1-1-0) begins the weekend having won its last two games and four straight at home. The Owls bested Old Dominion 1-0 last Sunday for their first league win of the season.
Junior midfielder Ebba Blomqvist leads Florida Atlantic with eight points on four goals, while freshman forward Miracle Porter stands second with seven points on three goals and one assist.
Keeper Jennifer Ocampo has allowed 13 goals and tallied 51 saves and owns a 1.15 goals against average.
"Our priority is performing well against FIU and then we will look at preparing for Florida Atlantic," Demers added. "Florida Atlantic is a team with a very dynamic midfield that features multiple goal scorers."
Florida Atlantic hosts Middle Tennessee Friday at 6 p.m. before welcoming UAB on Sunday.
