MIAMI, Fla. – Amy Brewer scored three goals and the UAB women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to seven with a 5-1 victory over FIU on Friday at the FIU Soccer Stadium.
The Blazers have not lost since Aug. 27 in double overtime at Memphis and now own the longest unbeaten streak since the 2004 team won eight in a row. UAB also finished the month with a 5-0-2 record to become the first team in school history to go unbeaten in September.
UAB improves to 2-0-0 in Conference USA play for the first time since 2014 and won consecutive road games in league play for the first time since 2008. Overall, the Blazers own an 8-1-2 record and boast a perfect 7-0-0 mark this season when playing on Friday.
"I'm very happy with our performance tonight and what we have been able to do for the month of September," UAB head coach Erica Demers said. "Our team continues to pride themselves on taking care of the intangibles and holding one another accountable. From our goalkeepers to our frontline, they have continued to ask more of each other."
Brewer scored in the 30th, 49th and 78th minute to notch her first career multi-goal game and the first hat trick for UAB since Tiffani Turpin accomplished the feat in a 3-2 double overtime victory at East Carolina on Oct. 30, 2011. Regan Kommor assisted on both the second and third goals for her first points of her career.
"I thought we had a great week of practice and everyone worked hard and was attentive at all times," Brewer said. "We talked about our organization and our game plan before the match and I think we executed it well. We did what the coaching staff asked of us and we got the result we wanted. Now it's time to turn our focus to the next game on Sunday."
Caroline Kehrer struck first and put UAB ahead 1-0 when she capitalized on a feed from sophomore Megan Hudgens in the 13th minute. Hudgens would later register her team-leading sixth goal of the season when she beat FIU keeper Nevena Stojakovic in the 66th minute.
"Tonight I asked the team to keep putting pressure on FIU and I thought we did exactly that," Demers added. "It was great to see Amy connect three times, two of which came on perfectly placed balls from Regan. It was unfortunate to give up a goal, but we will go back and watch the film to see where it was we broke down."
Ashley Adams scored the lone goal for FIU in the 66th minute.
Kelsey Daugherty finished with one save for UAB and continues to lead Conference USA with a 0.68 goals against average.
UAB closes a three-game road trip Sunday at 12 p.m. CT when the Blazers make the short trip to Boca Raton, Fla., to face Florida Atlantic.
