BOCA RATON, Fla. – Amy Brewer scored her sixth goal of the season and the UAB women's soccer team picked up one point in the league standings after playing to a 1-1 draw with Florida Atlantic Sunday afternoon from the FAU Soccer Stadium.
Brewer now leads UAB with 16 points and has at least one point in five straight games. The Peachtree City, Ga., native scored three goals Friday in a 5-1 victory at FIU, marking the first hat trick for UAB since 2011.
With UAB trailing by one midway through the second half, Brewer netted the equalizer off a feed from Megan Hudgens in the 61st minute. Hudgens now leads UAB with three assists and stands second on the team with 15 points.
"Today was the first time in a few games where we were down, but it shows a lot about our character and discipline in the way we were able to fight back," Brewer said. "We didn't get the result that we wanted, but our fight sets the tone for how we want to play the rest of the season."
Florida Atlantic forward Elisha Holmes started the scoring with a goal in the 24th minute.
"Our players fought today, because any time you can come back from being down a goal shows a great deal of character," UAB head coach Erica Demers said. "Our players battled against a very well-coached team. We're happy to still be undefeated in conference play."
Blazer keeper Kelsey Daugherty made four saves and continues to lead Conference USA with a 0.69 goals against average.
UAB returns to the pitch Friday at 7 p.m. when the Blazers host Marshall from BBVA Compass Field.
