UAB Falls At Auburn In Exhibition Match

AUBURN, Ala. – The UAB Volleyball team fell three sets to none in its exhibition match at Auburn.

The Tigers jumped out to a quick start taking the first set 25-11. Erika Zembyla was the bright spot for UAB in the recording two of the Blazers six kills. Gabby Deshotel, Victoria Young, Haley Jared and Petra Silic had the other kills for UAB.

Both teams battled back-and-forth in the second set but the Tigers were able to pull away and take the second set 25-16. Deshotel led UAB in the second set with two kills while Zembyla, Jared and Emily Rudolph each added one.

The Blazers battled back in the third set holding a lead during the early portion of the set but Auburn took the set 25-15 and the match 3-0.

"We knew it was going to be a tough test against a very good team in Auburn," head coach Kerry Messersmith said. "We have a lot of things we can take from this and work on for the next week as we get ready for the season opener."

UAB will start the season on the road at the Boston College Invitational Aug. 25. The Blazers will return home to Bartow Arena for the Blazer Invitational set for Aug. 31 – Sept. 3.
