BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Nine home matches, including five Conference USA matches at BBVA Compass Field, highlight the 2017 UAB women's soccer schedule, head coach Erica Demers announced Monday.
UAB faces in-state foe Jacksonville State (Aug. 8) in an exhibition match before opening the regular season Aug. 18 by hosting Georgia State from BBVA Compass Field.
The Blazers continue their non-conference schedule with a five-match road trip that will take UAB to Jackson State (Aug. 20), UT Martin (Aug. 25), Memphis (Aug. 27), Furman (Sept. 1) and UNC Asheville (Sept. 3).
UAB returns home for three consecutive matches against Tennessee Tech (Sept. 8), Belmont (Sept. 10) and Mississippi Valley State (Sept. 15) to put the finishing touches on its non-conference schedule.
"Our staff is extremely excited about the layout and competition we will face in our non-conference schedule," Demers said. "We will face many teams that did extremely well not only within their conferences last season, but nationally. I firmly believe that the level of competition will help prepare us for the strength of Conference USA."
The Blazers begin Conference USA play Friday, Sept. 22 with a trip to El Paso, Texas, to face UTEP. UAB continues league play on the road the following week with matches at FIU (Sept. 29) and Florida Atlantic (Oct. 1).
League play resumes the next week with UAB returning home to host Marshall (Oct. 6) and WKU (Oct. 8) from BBVA Compass Field. The final road trip of the regular season will take the Blazers to North Texas (Oct. 13) and UTSA (Oct. 15).
UAB closes the regular season with consecutive home matches against Southern Miss (Oct. 20), Louisiana Tech (Oct. 22) and Middle Tennessee (Oct. 27).
"We have a challenging but exciting conference schedule ahead of our program." Demers added. "The preparation of our team this summer will greatly impact how we will do this fall."
The Conference USA Women's Soccer Championship follows and is scheduled for Nov. 1-5 from Boca Raton, Fla.
