Blazers Fall to Louisiana Tech in Doubleheader

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB softball team fell to Louisiana Tech 5-0 and 1-0 in a doubleheader Saturday at Mary Bowers Field.

Louisiana Tech (24-14, 7-3) was on the board first in the third inning when Katie Smith scored on a UAB fielding error.
The Lady Techsters plated three more runs in the top of the sixth inning. Ali Galaz homered to left center to give Louisiana Tech a 2-0 lead before Pauline Tufi sent a sacrifice fly to left field to plate the second run of the inning. Marilyn Rizzato was next to the plate and sent a solo shot over the left field wall to give the Lady Techsters the 4-0 advantage.
A single run was scored in the seventh inning for Louisiana Tech when it drew a bases loaded walk to make the score 5-0.
UAB (13-23, 5-5) recorded five hits in the shutout. Danii Fernandez, Analyse Petree, Madison Millsaps, Molli Garcia and Natalie Erwin all contributed with a hit each.
Claire Blount (6-9) suffered the loss in the circle for the Blazers. The freshman lefty gave up three earned runs on seven hits and recorded two strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work.
Preslee Gallaway (11-9) captured the win for the Lady Techsters. The sophomore from Pilot Point, Texas, pitched the complete game, gave up five hits and tallied seven strikeouts.
UAB 0, LA TECH 1
The Blazers saw extra innings for the second time this week as they fell 1-0 in nine innings.
Both teams were held scoreless until the ninth when Morgan Turkoly sent a solo home run over the right center wall to give Louisiana Tech (25-13, 8-3) the 1-0 lead and eventual win.
UAB (13-24, 5-6) tallied three hits in the loss against the Lady Techsters. Joanna Fallen, Mary Warren and Garcia all had a hit each.
Cara Goodwin (2-8) got the loss for the Blazers. The senior right hander gave up one run on four hits in nine innings pitched.
Krystal De La Cruz (7-0) stayed perfect on the season for Louisiana Tech. She tossed the complete game, tallied seven strikeouts and gave up only three hits in the win.
The two teams will be back in action Sunday April 9 at Mary Bowers Field with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
