MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The UAB women’s tennis team concluded the regular season Saturday morning with 4-0 loss to Conference USA foe Southern Miss from the Adams Tennis Complex.
Southern Miss won the doubles point with a default victory at the No. 3 position and a 7-5 win at No. 1 from Alex Kitchen and Carolin Drescher. UAB freshmen Marlene Herrmann and Hana Sisirk did pick up their eighth win of the season together after downing Rikeetha Pereira and Elena Roca 6-3 at No. 2.
The Golden Eagles went ahead 2-0 after Claudia Castella earned a default victory from the No. 6 singles position. Roca secured the third point for Southern Miss after she defeated Natalie Voss 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Tjasa Jerse clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Reghan Lynch at No. 4.
“I’m disappointed that our No. 1 and No. 2 singles players didn’t get to finish these last two days because they were playing well and ahead,” UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. “Now we need to recover and start preparing for the conference tournament.”
UAB will now take part in the Conference USA Tournament later this month. Hosted by North Texas, the tournament begins April 20.
