Blazers Fall at Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- The UAB women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at Middle Tennessee Friday afternoon from the Adams Tennis Complex.
The Blazers suffered a setback in the first doubles match of the day from the No. 3 position, but UAB rallied to win the final two matches to win the point. Senior Pardis Kianoush and sophomore Reghan Lynch turned in a 6-2 victory over Sarah Sediri and Luisa Zirilli at No. 1 before freshmen Marlene Herrmann and Hana Sisirak bested Costanza Magazzini and Lidia Burrows 6-2 at No. 2.
Marta Peris Herrero pulled Middle Tennessee even when she earned a singles victory at No. 5 after Taylor Factor was forced to retire from the match. Sediri followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Natalie Voss at No. 6 to put the Blue Raiders ahead 2-1.
Zirilli won the third straight point for Middle Tennessee with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Lynch at No. 4, and Magazzini defeated Sisirak 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 to clinch the win.
"We competed well as a team today," UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. "Our doubles teams played well and continue to improve every time out. We have to start getting ourselves ready for tomorrow's match."
UAB closes its regular season Saturday at 10 a.m. when the Blazers remain in Murfreesboro to face Southern Miss from the Adams Tennis Complex.
