Blazers Fall at Home to Troy

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision on Saturday to in-state rival Troy from George Ward Park.
Troy won the doubles point with victories at No. 1 and No. 3 to build a 1-0 lead.
Pardis Kianoush recorded her team-best fifth singles when to pull UAB even after her opponent was forced to retire with an injury. Efrillya Herlina regained the lead for the Trojans with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Taylor Factor at No. 5.
Luisa Ferrauti extended the lead to 3-1 following her 6-0, 6-0 win over Natalie Voss at No. 6. Marlene Herrmann tallied the second point for UAB when she bested Jiayuan Xue 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2.
Sanae Ohta clinched the win for Troy with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Reghan Lynch at No. 3.
“I want to thank all the fans and the local high school teams that came out to watch us play today,” UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. “We love playing in front of a crowd, and we’re sorry we couldn’t get the win today, but it was a fun environment. Hopefully, we will have a similar environment tomorrow with a different result.
UAB returns to action Sunday at noon when the Blazers host Arkansas State.
