Blazers Topple Kennesaw State in Non-Conference Action

KENNESAW, Ga. – The UAB women’s tennis team secured its second road win of the season with a 4-2 victory at Kennesaw State Sunday morning in non-conference action from the Siegel Courts.
UAB won the doubles points after rallying to win the final two matches after dropping the opening match at No 3. Pardis Kianoush and Reghan Lynch kept the Blazers alive at No. 1 with a 6-1 victory over Cristina Perez-Martin and Alexandra Mercado. Newcomers Hana Sisirak and Marlene Herrmann completed the comeback with a 6-2 win over Laura Hopton and Jada Tijani at No. 2.
Tijani pulled Kennesaw State even when she won the first singles point of the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Natalie Voss at No. 6. Aspen Jarrett put the Owls ahead 2-1 after besting Factor 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5.
Sisirak tied the match after her 6-2, 6-0 win over Hopton at No. 4 before Kianoush defeated Perez-Martin 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 to give UAB a one-point lead.
Herrmann sealed the victory for UAB with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Mercado at No. 2.
“We did what we had to do today, and it’s good to get the beginning of a tough week started with a win,” UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. “We need to learn lessons from today and continue to improve.”
UAB returns to action Wednesday at 8 a.m. (CT) when the Blazers travel to Atlanta, Ga., to face Georgia State.
