BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Knight Eady, a Birmingham-based sports marketing and event management company, announced a new event coming to Birmingham this winter. The 2017 BHM JAM is a doubleheader college basketball event featuring the Auburn Tigers and the UAB Blazers.
The neutral-site doubleheader will be played Dec. 16 in Legacy Arena at the BJCC. UAB will take on Alabama A&M at 2:15 p.m., followed by Auburn and MTSU at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for the event are on sale now through Ticketmaster and at the BJCC box office.
This marks a rare occasion in which Auburn and UAB are playing in the same venue on the same date. Birmingham sports fans in the area have a unique opportunity to see college basketball during the holiday season, and a 90's throwback theme for the event will give teams, coaches and fans a great experience.
Neutral-site college basketball games have been played in Legacy Arena at the BJCC numerous times since the venue opened, but this will be the first multi-game regular season event in the arena since 2007. The BHM JAM also marks the first time Auburn and UAB have played together in a doubleheader since 2001.
The BHM JAM features a 90's theme, which will provide both fans and teams with an exciting experience beyond the in-game matchups. Fans can expect 90's music and themed in-game activations, hosted by Josh Snead of SEC Shorts. During the halftime event of each team's game, two 90's era players from Auburn and UAB will be recognized on the court.
"The UAB men's basketball team is thrilled to be a part of the inaugural BHM JAM doubleheader," UAB head coach Robert Ehsan. "Legacy Arena at the BJCC has a storied history with UAB Basketball, and we are happy to partner with Knight Eady to bring a major neutral-site event to the local fans. We hope this event will be a staple for years to come among sports fans in our great city."
In addition to the games, Auburn and UAB's men's basketball teams will participate in an educational and community engagement event at the Civil Rights Institute on Dec. 15.
"Knight Eady is proud to partner with these institutions and to provide an opportunity to showcase these outstanding basketball programs that bring distinction to our state," said Mark Whitworth, Chief Operating Officer at Knight Eady. "We look forward to bringing a new event to Birmingham and continuing to promote college basketball to fans in the area."
