STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The UAB women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision at Mississippi State Sunday afternoon from McCarthy Gymnasium in the final match of four-match road trip to open the spring season.
Mississippi State secured the doubles point and built a 1-0 advantage following victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 position.
Lisa Marie Rioux put the Bulldogs ahead after turning in a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Marlene Herrmann at the No. 2 singles position. Jasmine Lee followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Pardis Kianoush at No. 1, and Anastasia Rentouli clinched the match for Mississippi State when she downed Reghan Lynch 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3.
"Mississippi State is one of the best teams in the country, so there is no shame in losing," UAB head coach Mark Tjia said. "With that being said, I was disappointed in our slow starts in matches and our lack of focus and discipline in our preparation. We did not take care of details, and if you do that against a team of this caliber, it will be over very fast."
UAB returns to action Feb. 4 when the Blazers host Louisiana Tech in its home opener from George Ward Park.
