VALDIVIA, Chile – UAB incoming freshman Nate Darling helped Team Canada win a Silver Medal Saturday evening at the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Men’s Basketball Championship.
Darling and Team Canada posted victories over Argentina (92-58), the Dominican Republic (87-74), Brazil (74-58) and Puerto Rico (83-66) to reach the championship game Saturday against the United States.
The Americans captured the Gold Medal behind 23 points, five rebounds and five assists from MVP Markelle Fultz en route to a 99-84 victory.
Darling averaged 1.8 points, 0.6 rebounds and hit three 3-pointers in 9.4 minutes per game.
“This was a great opportunity for Nate to represent his country and compete for a Gold Medal,” UAB head coach Robert Ehsan said. “I know he had Blazer fans across the country watching him compete, and we couldn’t be more excited about him joining our team next month.”
