KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Basketball Coaches announced Thursday that UAB head coach Jerod Haase has been selected as the District 11 All-District Coach and Robert Brown and Chris Cokley were named to the All-District 11 First Team.
In his fourth season in Birmingham, Haase led the Blazers to a 26-7 overall record and a 16-2 mark inside Conference USA to guide UAB to its first regular-season title since 2011. Along the way, UAB set school records for overall wins, conference wins, road wins (10) and consecutive wins (14).
The Blazers were also a perfect 16-0 at Bartow Arena this season to extend the nation’s fifth-longest home winning streak to 25. UAB also enjoyed a successful road schedule that included a 72-71 overtime win at Old Dominion to snap the Monarchs’ 32-game home winning streak. The Blazers also posted a 77-67 victory at NCAA Third Round participant Middle Tennessee in late February to hand the Blue Raiders their most lopsided home loss of the season.
Haase also led UAB to the postseason for the second consecutive year, as the Blazers earned a berth in the NIT for the 12th time in school history.
A Conference USA All-First Team selection, Brown finished the season with a team-high 14.0 points per game to go along with a team-best 67 three-pointers made. The Clermont, Florida, native started in 32 of the 33 games in which he appeared and ranked 10th in the league with a .400 three-point field goal percentage.
Brown also stood 13th in the league with 3.1 assists per game and turned in the fourth-highest assist total of anyone in the conference when he doled out a career-high 11 helpers in the season opener at Auburn.
Brown left Blazer fans with a lasting memory when he scored a career-high 29 points, including 27 in the second half, against BYU in the NIT in his final game in a UAB uniform.
Cokley ranked second on the team in scoring (13.1 ppg) and first in rebounding (6.5 rpg) and earned All-C-USA Second Team accolades. The 2015 Conference USA Sixth Man of the Year, Cokley ended the season with a team-high four double-doubles and registered five 20-point games.
A native of Savannah, Georgia, Cokley ranked sixth in C-USA with a .573 field goal percentage and turned in 16 games in which he shot 60.0 percent or better from the field, including three games over 80.0 percent. His performance helped UAB rank 24th in the NCAA in team field goal percentage.
