Hoops On The Haasephalt Set For Oct. 8

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- For the fourth consecutive year, the UAB men's and women's basketball teams will begin their seasons in grand fashion with Hoops On The Haasephalt. This year's event is set for Thursday, Oct. 8, and for the first time, will take place on the UAB Campus Green.
Hoops on the Haasephalt will serve as the featured event for Homecoming Week activities and is free and open to UAB faculty, staff, students and the general public. The event will begin at 7 p.m. with the presentation of Mr. and Miss UAB.
The outdoor, one-of-a-kind event will tip off the 2015-16 seasons for the Blazers’ men’s and women’s teams. This season, the Blazers will erect an outdoor basketball court at the Campus Green, located adjacent to the UAB Recreation Center off University Boulevard.
“Hoops on the Haasephalt has been a great event for our programs and has been an exciting way to tip off our seasons for Blazer fans,” said UAB men’s basketball head coach Jerod Haase. “Our fans have shown up in full force, and we know they will once again enjoy this event.”
Among the featured events scheduled for Hoops on the Haasephalt will be introductions of the men's and women's basketball teams, a co-ed 3-point shootout, a dunk contest as well as a fireworks show to end the night.
“We are once again excited to kick off our basketball season this year with Hoops on the Haasephalt,” said UAB women’s head coach Randy Norton. “It has been a great event to be a part of the last two years, and it is an excellent way to get the season started. It is one of the most unique events put on in the country, and we look forward to making it bigger and better this year."
The UAB men will play their first game on Friday, Nov. 6 when the Blazers host Cal State East Bay in an exhibition (7:00 p.m.). The UAB women begin on Saturday, Oct. 31 when Mississippi College visits Bartow Arena for an exhibition game (2:00 p.m. p.m.).
Season tickets for UAB's 17 home games are on sale for $215 to the general public and $195 to UAB employees and active members of the National Alumni Society. A limited number of Family Section seats remain at $75 each. Season tickets for the 16 UAB women’s games this season are also on sale for $50.
