BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB men's basketball wrapped up an excellent performance in the classroom for the 2015 summer term earlier this month. Five Blazers achieved an outstanding 4.0 GPA, and 12 Blazers received a 3.0 or higher GPA for the summer term.
Overall, the average summer GPA for the team was a 3.25. The men's basketball team also boasts the top Academic Progress Rate (APR) among basketball programs in Conference USA based on numbers through the 2013-14 academic year.
"These players put in a lot of hours to not only succeed on the court, but in the classroom," said head coach Jerod Haase. "I am extremely proud of their academic progress, and achievements, and we are looking forward to continued success in the classroom as the 2015-16 school year begins."
This summer marks the third term the Blazer's men's basketball program has eclipsed a 3.0 team GPA during Haase's tenure.
"The guys have set the bar high for their academic success as we head into the new school year," said Justin Mackey, Academic Counselor and Assistant Athletic Director. "Our goal is to continue to develop these young men in the classroom and out of it through unique student-athlete development opportunities. We will continue to be deliberate in establishing goals and working towards exceeding every one of them."
This summer the Blazers worked hard on the court as well preparing to defend their 2015 C-USA Tournament crown.
"My goal at UAB has always been to find student-athletes who want to pursue excellence on and off the court," said Haase.
The Blazers report back to campus on August 23rd to begin the 2015-16 campaign. UAB returns all five starters from last season's team that captured the Conference USA Tournament championship and went on to defeat third-seeded Iowa State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
