BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB men's basketball redshirt junior guard Robert Brown was named to the 2014-15 All-Conference USA Third Team as voted on by the league's 14 head coaches and a select panel of media representatives, the league office announced on Monday.
Brown, who led UAB in scoring a team-high 16 times and scored in double figures in 23 of 31 games this season, garners his first career all-conference honor. The Clermont, Fla., native played two seasons at Virginia Tech before transferring to UAB at the beginning of the2013-14 season.
"Robert has had a great work ethic and commitment to the game since arriving in Birmingham," head coach Jerod Haase said. "He has been committed to the team's success and it is great for him to be rewarded for his efforts. I am extremely proud of him and we are so fortunate to have him back at UAB for another season next year."
The 6-foot-5 guard has been the go-to scorer and UAB's leader all season. He finished the regular season ranked No. 18 in C-USA in scoring and led UAB in scoring (12.9 ppg), minutes played (31. 8 minutes per game) and field goals made (145 total). Perhaps his best stretch of the season came from Dec. 7, 2014 through Jan. 29, 2015, when he scored in double figures in 13-straight contests. He started that stretch with a career-high 27-point performance against Illinois State, hitting 7-of-9 from 3-point range against the Redbirds.
Brown is UAB's eighth all-time All-Conference Third Team selection and the 25th overall All-C-USA honoree in UAB history. The 2014-15 Conference USA specialty awards will be announced on Tuesday.
UAB faces the winner of the WKU vs. Marshall contest in the quarterfinal round of the C-USA Championship on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT. For more information on the UAB men's basketball team, follow the Blazers on Twitter @UAB_MBB.
