BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB women’s soccer team is back on the road this weekend for the College of Charleston Cup in Charleston, S.C. from Friday, Sept. 5 – Sunday, Sept. 7. The Blazers will take on Jacksonville at 4 p.m. CT Friday and Illinois Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.

UAB Notes
The Series Against Jacksonville and Illinois
UAB and Jacksonville have met once all-time in program history. The meeting came in UAB’s first-ever match in UAB women’s soccer history back on Aug. 30, 1996.
Sunday’s meeting between UAB and Illinois marks the first in program history for both squads.
Scouting The Opponents
Jacksonville enters the weekend tournament with a 2-2-1 record. The Dolphins recently dropped a 1-0 decision to Miami Tuesday night in Coral Gables. Outside of an exhibition in Orlando to begin the year, Jacksonville played five-straight matches at home, defeating Coastal Carolina and Lafayette, while dropping contests to Boston College and the Hurricanes.
Illinois takes a 3-1 record into Charleston after having played a ranked opponent to begin the year and an ACC and Pac-12 opponent in games two and three. The Fighting Illini dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 16 Notre Dame in its first regular season match. Since then, Illinois has topped Louisville (2-0), Arizona State (3-1) and Oakland (1-0)
A Look Back In History
Friday’s opponent at the College of Charleston Cup, the Jacksonville Dolphins, are part of UAB women’s soccer history.
The Blazers began official play in women’s soccer back in 1996 under the direction of head coach Paul Harbin. UAB’s first opponent: Jacksonville. The Dolphins traveled to Birmingham for the very first UAB women’s soccer match as the Green and Gold dominated in its first contest, defeating the Dolphins 7-0. The two teams haven’t met since that day on Aug. 30, 1996.
