BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the UAB women’s soccer team will sit down with UABSports.com throughout the 2014 season to conduct Q&A’s. Check back with UABSports.com weekly for different features as the season progresses.
Today's Q&A features freshman Ashley Zambetti, a native of Duluth, Ga. Below Zambetti talks about her time in Birmingham and much more.
What has been your favorite moment at UAB?
“So far, it's been being with the soccer team because they have been so supportive and inclusive with everyone. I definitely think they will be life long friends.”
What will you miss most about UAB?
“I will miss being with all my friends and having this amazing experience and opportunity.”
If you did not play soccer, what sport would you play?
“I probably would have played either basketball or volleyball. I played both sports in high school and middle school but I gave them both up to play the sport I truly love.”
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
“My brothers have been the biggest influence. My brother Michael was who inspired me to become a goalkeeper and my brother BK always supported me and helped me whenever I needed it.”
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“Hawaii, because it has beautiful terrain and it is completely my paradise. I've been to many different places but nothing has ever compared to the beauty and interesting culture of Hawaii.”
What is one thing people do not know about you?
“I absolutely love horses and have ridden on and off since I was little. I used to ride so much that I almost got my own horse, but I didn't because I was too busy with my other sports.”
What is your favorite thing about living in Birmingham?
“I love that I have access to different stores and restaurants (being in the city and all) but I don't feel like I'm in the city.”
The team won 11 games last year and advanced to the C-USA tournament for the first time since 2009, talk about how the success and turnaround from last year helps the team in moving forward this year?
“It will make us more determined to keep moving forward in the tournament because we know what it feels like to participate in the C-USA tournament.”
