BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the UAB women’s soccer team will sit down with UABSports.com throughout the 2014 season to conduct Q&A’s. Check back with UABSports.com weekly for different features as the season progresses.
Today's Q&A features freshman Gabrielle Brokamp, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. Below Brokamp talks about her time in Birmingham and much more.
If you did not play soccer, what sport would you play?
“If I didn’t play soccer, I would definitely do track & field. Pole vault is a pretty scary field event, but it is so much fun!”
What are your plans after you finish up at UAB?
“My plans after UAB are to hopefully go to medical school somewhere and focus on dermatology.”
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
“My parents and siblings have had the biggest influence on my career. Being one of four kids created competition no matter what, whether it was in our own sports or just playing pool volleyball on vacation. My parents were always pushing us to do our best. My family is definitely my driving force and strongest support system.”
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“If I could travel to anywhere in the world it would be Bora Bora because it looks absolutely amazing in ‘Couples Retreat.’”
You play seven games on the road before hosting your first home game on Sept. 19, talk about how much of a grind that's going to be to continuously play on the road and be a little under halfway done with the season before you play at home.
“I don’t think it matters when our first home game is. We will play to win no matter where we are, and beating someone on their own turf makes the victory that much sweeter. We will be grinding this season no matter where we are!”
