DAVIDSON, N.C. - The UAB women's soccer team (2-0) improved to 2-0 with a 1-0 victory over Davidson Friday night at Alumni Soccer Stadium in Davidson, N.C.
"First off, I want to give kudos to Davidson," head coach Harold Warren said following the 1-0 decision. "They're definitely a tough opponent at their place and they made the game extremely difficult; it could have went either way. We had some very, very good moments in the game, but we've just got to be a bit more consistent. There were times we had good possession and made a few opportunities, but it just has to be more consistent."
Sophomore Morgan Key-Adams scored the game-winner for the Blazers, notching the point for UAB on an assist from freshman Bri Kuestersteffen.
"The goal we got, Bri Kuestersteffen drove a good ball in to Morgan (Key-Adams), who put in the work and got behind a defender to score a nice goal."
UAB took 17 shots to the Wildcats' nine. The Blazers also led Davidson in corner kicks with a 9-7 advantage. Angelica Jimenez, the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, recorded two saves in goal while the Davidson keeper allowed the one goal with 11 saves. Key-Adams took four shots, all on-goal. Freshman Rachel Green led with five shots for four on-goal.
UAB returns to action on Sunday with a tough contest at Duke. Kick is set for 5 p.m. CT from Koskinen Stadium.
"We go in the same way we go into every game," Warren said of Sunday's match. "We're going to have to keep the ball and go at them. They're a very good team and well coached and I know Robbie Church very well and I have a tremendous amount of respect for him. We have to make sure we're prepared mentally and physically and do a better job of taking care of the ball and finishing the opportunities we create."
