BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Members of the UAB women’s soccer team will sit down with UABSports.com throughout the 2014 season to conduct Q&A’s. Check back with UABSports.com weekly for different features as the season progresses.
Today's Q&A features freshman Blaine Cathey, a native of Abilene, Texas. Below Cathey talks about her time in Birmingham and much more.
If you did not play soccer, what sport would you play?
“Sand volleyball for sure. It is such a challenging sport and I enjoy playing it when I get a chance.”
What are your plans after you finish up at UAB?
“I would love to really get into CrossFit. My dream is to own my own multi-sport training gym/facility one day with a physical therapy room, a turf field, batting cages, basketball courts, a yoga room and a smoothie king.”
Who has been the biggest influence on your career?
“My dad. From watching soccer games with me to training me in the gym and on the field, he has instilled in me work ethic and self-discipline on and off the pitch. He and my mom pushed me so hard and demanded so much out of me. I hated it, but now looking back I know that I would not be where I am today without him. He has always been my biggest fan.”
If you could travel to anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“Brazil, because of the beautiful landscape and scenery. I also would love to play beach soccer with the locals over there.”
What is one thing people do not know about you?
“I own every song known to man. Maybe not, but I truly love music.”
