Denzel Collins Joins UAB Men's Basketball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- Denzel Collins, a 6-foot-2 guard from the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie, has signed a scholarship and will join the UAB men's basketball team, head coach Jerod Haase announced on Wednesday.
"Denzel is a guy who we look to fit into our system right away," Haase said. "He had a great career at USC Salkehatchie and we look forward to him making an immediate impact on our program."
A native of Savannah, Ga., Collins comes to the Blazers after spending the last two seasons at USC Salkehatchie -- a junior college in Allendale, S.C. Collins averaged 15.1 points per game and 4.5 assists per contest last season on his way to being named NJCAA First Team All-Region and USC Salkehatchie Team MVP. He was also a 2013-14 NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American selection.
Collins prepped at Bethesda Day School in Savannah, Ga., where he earned Georgia Independent School Association First-Team All-State honors after setting the school single-season record with 581 points in one season.
