BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four participants from the 2013 NCAA Tournament highlight UAB women’s soccer’s 2014 schedule, head coach Harold Warren released on Wednesday.
The Blazers will face South Alabama, Duke, Jacksonville and Illinois – all NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago – within the first five matches of the fall.
UAB will play six home matches at West Campus Field, with the first set for Sept. 19 against Chattanooga. Conference USA members UTSA, UTEP, FIU, Florida Atlantic and Rice will also make trips to Birmingham to round out the Blazers’ home slate.
The season begins on Aug. 22 when UAB travels to South Alabama, before hitting the road a week later to North Carolina to face Davidson (Aug. 29) and Duke (Aug. 31), an NCAA Quarterfinal team in 2013.
UAB opens the month of September with play at the College of Charleston Tournament (Sept. 5-7), where the Blazers will face Jacksonville and Illinois. The other two remaining non-conference contests include two in-state matchups, both on the road, against Alabama (Sept. 12) and Troy (Sept. 14).
The Green and Gold will play five league contests away from home, including the first on Oct. 3 at Southern Miss, before traveling a state over to Louisiana to face Louisiana Tech on Oct. 5. Following a two-game home tilt, UAB will then round out its road slate with matches at Marshall (Oct. 17), Western Kentucky (Oct. 19) and Middle Tennessee (Oct. 26).
