Softball's Pearson, Dennis Homer In Tulsa Split

TULSA, Okla.--Sophomores Heather Pearson and Amy Dennis hit home runs as UAB used a four-run sixth inning to come back to defeat No. 17/21 Tulsa, 9-7, in game two of Saturday's doubleheader at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
The Blazers also hit a season-high five doubles in the win, including three consecutive in the top of the sixth inning.
In game one, the Golden Hurricane recorded four runs on nine hits as the Blazers dropped a 4-1 decision.
With the split, UAB is 25-10 on the year while Tulsa is 32-10-1. Both teams have identical 12-2 Conference USA records, and tomorrow's game will decide which team sits in first place in the league.
Game 1
Tulsa 4, UAB 1
In the first game, UAB's lone run came by way of an obstruction call on Tulsa's shortstop, which allowed freshman shortstop Caitlin Attfield to advance to home plate in the top of the sixth inning.
The Golden Hurricane recorded their four runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings, on hits by Cobb and Edmiston.
In the circle for UAB, pitcher Leigh Streetman (9-5) threw a complete game and struck out seven batters. For Tulsa, pitcher Amy Creger (17-3) walked two Blazer batters and gave up four hits.
Game 2
UAB 9, Tulsa 7
Pearson started off the second game with her second home run of the year, over the left field fence to but the Blazers up, 1-0.
Tulsa responded with a two-RBI home run over center field by Henshaw in the bottom of the second inning.
UAB plated three more runs in the top of the third frame, starting when Attfield drew a leadoff walk. Pearson advanced the runner with a sacrifice bunt, and senior center fielder Whitney Fletcher reached on a fielder's choice. Senior third baseman Kate Armstrong stepped up to the plate and hit her first double of the day to score two runs.
Junior designated hitter Kristen McGrath reached base on a walk, while senior catcher Anna Kimbrell reached base by being hit by pitch. Kimbrell has been hit 19 times this season, including four times in the last three games.
Junior third baseman Megan McGrath reached on a fielder's choice in the next at bat, while senior pinch runner Hailey Glynn, in for K. McGrath, ran home on an error by the Tulsa catcher to give UAB the 4-2 advantage.
Tulsa tied the game by a two-RBI home run over center field by Bowen in the bottom of the fourth frame, and extended its lead with a three-RBI home run by Kernen in the fifth.
The Blazers battled back, starting with Dennis' solo home run, her second of the year, over left field with one out in the top of the sixth.
Pearson followed with a single to center field, and was pushed to third as Fletcher hit a double to left center. Armstrong followed with her second double of the day to score two and tie the game at seven runs apiece. UAB took back the lead as K. McGrath hit the third consecutive double of the inning to score Armstrong and give UAB and 8-7 lead.
In the circle, Lauren Webster (9-3) shut down the Golden Hurricane in order in the bottom of the sixth, while senior right fielder Chandler Orr was scored in the top of the seventh as Attfield recorded her first double of the year to right field.
Webster got Tulsa down in order in the bottom of the seventh to give the Blazers the doubleheader split.
