BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – UAB men's basketball senior forward Rod Rucker has been named one of Conference USA's 16 preseason Players to Watch for the upcoming 2013-14 season, the league office announced on Thursday.
One of nine players on the list who won all-conference honors last year, Rucker enters his senior year as UAB's top returning scorer (14.5 ppg) and rebounder (8.2 rpg) from the 2012-13 campaign.
"Rod is an extremely talented player and is very deserving of this honor," head coach Jerod Haase said. "We will rely on his effort on the court this year, and I look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in his senior season."
A native of Elberton, Ga., Rucker made an immediate impact for the Blazers in his first year with the program. In addition to leading UAB in scoring and rebounding, the 2013 second team All-Conference USA performer scored in double figures in 26 of UAB's 33 games, and was the only Blazer to start every contest.
UAB men's basketball is currently in its first week of practice -- a week that culminates with the Hoops on the Haasephalt event on Friday.
