BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--The UAB women's soccer team will welcome No. 3 Oklahoma State to West Campus Field this Friday with first kick scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
On Sunday, the Blazers will embark on the first of four road matches that will round out the non-conference slate, facing Samford on the Bulldogs' home field at 6 p.m. CT.
Last week, UAB hosted the UAB Alumni team, which included former Blazers Tiffini Turpin, Allison Young, Allison Belsterling, Pascale Pinard, Morgan Haney, and assistant coach Kate Blankenship. The Blazers suffered a 4-0 loss to in-state foe Alabama last Sunday in their 2012 home opener. Senior forward Emma Jane Smithled the squad with a pair of shot attempts, one on goal.
SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS
Going into its first weekend on the road, No. 3 Oklahoma State is currently 4-0 on the season, starting off with home wins over UMKC, Weber State, Vanderbilt and Creighton. The Cowgirls return six starters from last season, including seniors Adrianna Franch, Carson Michalowski, and Megan Marchesano. UAB's lone match against Oklahoma State was contested last season in Stillwater, Okla. and resulted in a 4-1 win for OSU.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
The Samford Bulldogs (0-2) opened the season on the road at Tennessee and suffered a 4-0 loss to the Lady Vols. Samford then returned home to host Alabama, but its attempt at an upset fell short in the 2-1 loss. Before hosting the Blazers, the Bulldogs will travel to Auburn on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. The series between UAB and Samford is currently tied at 2-2, with the Blazers taking the most recent victory in a 1-0 shutout last season at West Campus Field.
