BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's soccer team will host Samford in the 2011 home opener on Friday, Aug. 25. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at West Campus Field.
The Blazers (0-2) are coming off a tough weekend with a pair of road losses in Oklahoma. UAB fell to the Oklahoma Sooners, 5-0, on Friday, then were defeated by the No. 7 Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 4-1, on Sunday. Senior Pascale Pinard scored UAB's first goal of the season on Sunday when she fired a shot from 40 yards out that hit the crossbar and snuck over the goal line.
Samford split a pair of home games last weekend. The Bulldogs blanked Belmont, 2-0, on Friday before losing to in-state foe Alabama, 2-1, on Sunday, dropping Samford's overall record to 1-1.
The Blazers and the Bulldogs have met three times in history. The last meeting was on Sept. 5, 2010 when the Bulldogs edged the Blazers, 1-0. In 2008, forward Tiffini Turpin, now a senior, scored her first career goal to give the Blazers a 1-0 win over Samford. The Bulldogs won the first-ever meeting between the two teams in 2007, earning a 2-1 overtime victory.
