UAB Travels To Oklahoma For Pair Of Road Contests

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's soccer team heads to Oklahoma this weekend for its first road tests and first regular-season action of 2011. The Blazers will meet the Oklahoma Sooners on Friday at 7 p.m. CT in Norman, Okla. before concluding the weekend against the No. 6 Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT in Stillwater, Okla.
The Blazers blanked the Arkansas State Red Wolves, 2-0, in their first test of the 2011 season, an exhibition match on Aug. 13. Senior Pascale Pinard scored the first goal for the Blazers, assisted by Carolyn Polcari. Sophomore Abby Phillips netted the second goal dished to her by freshman Sarah Hopper.
UAB is coming of an 8-9-2 record last season and will be playing its first regular-season matches under the direction of first-year head coach Harold Warren.
"Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are very good teams, well-coached and organized defensively," Warren said. "They are very good attacking teams and they will be two tough matches."
Oklahoma topped the Arkansas Razorbacks, 3-2 (OT) in an exhibition match on the road last weekend. Sophomore Bailey Boulware's game-winning goal gave the Sooners the edge in the first three minutes of overtime. Oklahoma finished the 2010 season with a record of 12-8-3 and finish tied for third in the Big 12 (5-4-1).
No. 6 Oklahoma State battled SMU to a 1-1 draw in an exhibition contest on Aug. 13. Picked to win the Big 12, the Cowgirls finished 2010 with their best record in program history (20-4-2) and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament.
The Blazers face the Sooners and Cowgirls for the first time in school history.
