BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- With the upcoming 2011-12 season still months away, members of the UAB men's basketball team continued to volunteer their time and efforts. The Blazers took part in the McWane Science Center "Everyday Science" morning camp on Wednesday to discuss the importance of nutrition and exercise.
The players relayed the message to a group consisting of rising first and second graders. Among the items that the Blazer student-athletes discussed were smart life choices in eating and exercise habits. Additionally, they broke into small groups to demonstrate ball-handling and passing drills and played games with the children.

"I thought the guys did a tremendous job of representing UAB and our program," associate head coach Donnie Marsh said. "They talked about a variety of topics from eating right and drinking lots of water to the importance of exercise. It is certainly an important topic - especially for our youths. I think it's great that our student-athletes are a part of something like this."
UAB student-athletes who participated included Cameron Moore, Jordan Swing, Alexander Scotland-Williamson, Quincy Taylor, Preston Purifoy and Robert Williams. Also involved in the program were football player Trey Ragland, Marsh and assistant men's basketball coach Walt Fuller.
