Isaiah "Hoopy" Jones Becomes Third Men's Hoops 2011 Signee

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB head coach Mike Davis announced the addition of Isaiah Jones, a 6-2, 170 pound guard, who signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) on Tuesday. Jones will join fellow Blazer Kenneth "K.C." Whitaker and Herb Harrison as the newest additions to the program.
"We are extremely excited about adding Isaiah to our program," Davis said. "He is going to be a fun player for Blazer fans to watch. He is extremely quick and athletic and can really score the basketball. When you talk about Isaiah, Herb and K.C., I think the future of UAB basketball is bright. I am looking forward to coaching them next season."
Jones, who goes by the nickname "Hoopy," comes to UAB after spending two seasons at Christian Life Academy prep school near Houston, Texas. During his prep season in 2010-11, Jones helped lead his team to a record of 21-4, as he averaged 21 points, five assists and four rebounds per contest.
During his senior season at Christian Life, Jones helped the team to a record of 32-1 and the National Post Graduate Athletic Association (NPGAA) high school division national championship. That season, he averaged 14 points, five assists and two steals per contest, and was rated as one of the top 15 seniors in the city of Houston by RCSsports.com.
Jones, a native of Pulaski, Ill., was considered one of the top players in the state of Illinois before transferring to the prep school in 2009. While attending Mounds Meridien High School near Carbondale, Ill., was a three-year starter. As a junior, he averaged 17.8 points and seven assists and made 92 3-pointers on his was to earning Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Class 1A all-state recognition. Additionally, he was tabbed as an Illinois Associated Press second-team all-state honoree that season, as he helped lead the Bobcats to a 26-4 overall record.
During his first two seasons at Mounds Meridien, Jones averaged 12.0 and 12.5 points, respectively, and made 53 3-pointers as a freshman. He began playing on the school's varsity team while in middle school.
A Rivals three-star recruit, Jones plays primarily at the point guard position, but can play the shooting guard spot. In addition to UAB, he also had scholarship offers from Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, North Texas and TCU.
Jones joins Whitaker, a 6-5, 185-pound guard, and Harrison, a 6-8, 215-pound forward as 2011 signees.
