Blazers Cruise Past Texas-Pan American In Women's Tennis

EL PASO, Texas -- The UAB women's tennis team turned in a strong performance Saturday morning in a 6-1 victory over Texas Pan-American.
The Blazers won the doubles point and captured five of the six singles matches, all in straight sets, as they played the first of three matches in three days.
UAB was impressive throughout the lineup but especially at the bottom, where the trio of Caroline Faught, Jenny Cape and Menanteau Moolman combined to lose just seven total games at the final three singles spots.
Moolman was especially dominating in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bianca Garcia Izaquirre at the No. 6 position.
Giorgia Romeo picked up a victory at the top spot in the lineup with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Malin Andersen, while Evelien Strijker posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Wanda Bequelin at the No. 2 spot.
UAB's only singles loss came at the No. 3 position, where Paula Alvarez suffered a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Reetta Raty.
The Blazers' doubles teams of Cape/Romeo and Brittany DeFelice/Faught earned victories to claim the doubles point for the Blazers.
UAB improved to 4-5 with the victory and will remain in El Paso to take on Idaho on Sunday at 9 a.m. MT (10 a.m. CT) and UTEP on Monday at 10 a.m. MT (11 a.m. CT).
