BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB football team began preparations for Saturday night's game against Conference USA opponent Tulsa at Tuesday morning's practice. The contest is slated for 7 p.m. CT Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. at H.A. Chapman Stadium.
UAB (0-5, 0-2 C-USA) spent just over two hours in full pads working on a variety of drills, while laying the primary focus and foundation for Saturday's game versus the Golden Hurricane.
Coach Neil Callaway was pleased with the team's energy at practice by the offensive and defensive units.
"We had a good practice," Callaway said. "Both sides of the ball played well and the scout team did a good job. We started [game planning] on Tulsa and worked on 11-on-11 drills."
Tulsa (2-3, 1-0 C-USA) is coming off a bye week and last took the field on Oct. 1 when the Golden Hurricane defeated North Texas, 41-24, in Tulsa. Coach Callaway is impressed with the play of the Tulsa quarterback, G.J. Kinne. On the season, Kinne has passed for 962 yards, nine touchdowns and completed 61.5 percent of his attempts.
"[Tulsa] is a physical football team," Callaway said. "I think they have the best quarterback in the league overall as far as running and throwing. Of course there are a couple of guys [in C-USA] that can throw it, but [Kinne] is more athletic."
Saturday's game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network with Dave Ryan (play-by-play) and Rich Rodriguez (color) on the call.
The road broadcast by the Blazer IMG Sports Network can be heard at WUHT-FM 107.7 in Birmingham. As always, David Crane (pbp), John Whitcomb (color) will be in the booth, with Sam Miller roaming the sidelines.
