Jamarr Sanders Named Student-Athlete Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Jamarr Sanders, a senior guard for the Blazer men's basketball team, has been selected as the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
Sanders has started all 12 games this season and will lead the Blazers into Wednesday's contest against top-ranked Duke. He currently leads UAB and ranks fifth in Conference USA in scoring average with 17.3 points per game. Furthermore, Sanders ranks fourth in the league in three-pointers made per game (2.3), 11th in free throw percentage (.825) and sixth in minutes per game (33.5).
Off the court, the Montgomery, Ala., product maintained a 3.0 grade point average during the fall semester. It marked the second consecutive semester Sanders has carried a 3.0 in the classroom after earning a 3.2 GPA during the spring of 2010. He is on pace to graduate with a degree in communication management in May of 2011.
Sanders was one of seven men's basketball players to maintain a 3.0 GPA this past semester.
Sanders and the men's basketball team (10-2) will take on the Blue Devils on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. CT (7 p.m. ET) at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The contest will be televised on ESPN2. UAB will open C-USA play on Saturday with a home contest against UTEP at 3 p.m. CT, which will also be televised nationally on CBS College Sports.
