Cape, Moolman Advance In Main Draw Matches Friday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- UAB women's tennis players Jenny Cape and Menanteau Moolman each picked up opening-round singles victories Friday on day one of Alabama's Roberta Alison Fall Classic.
Cape, seeded fourth in her draw, took down Mississippi State's Jordan Zachary, 6-2, 6-4. Moolman, the No. 2 seed in her flight, also advanced in the winners' bracket with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Kentucky's Elle Coldiron.
Both players will compete in the quarterfinals of their eight-player draws when the competition continues Saturday.
Three other Blazers were in action on the singles courts Friday. Giorgia Romeo, Caroline Faught and Rachel Cohen each suffered opening round losses and will continue play Saturday in the back draws of their flights.
Romeo drew the top seed in her flight, while Cohen won the opening set of her match before dropping the last two.
The Blazers also fielded two doubles teams at the event with both dropping a pair of matches Friday. Both squads lost one match to a seeded team.
