HOUSTON, Texas -- The UAB women's tennis team lost, 7-0, to 41st-ranked Rice on the road Saturday afternoon.
Playing without two of their top four players because of injury, the Blazers dropped the doubles point and then saw the Owls win each of the six singles contests.
Rice recorded straight-set victories across the board on the way to the win. UAB's Evelien Strijker and Menanteau Moolman both missed the match, forcing the Blazers to play with a lineup they had not used before.
Jenny Cape, who owns a team-best 13 wins this spring, saw her personal seven-match winning streak come to an end with a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Rice's Rebecca Lin at No. 4 singles.
In addition to its national ranking, Rice came into the match with a regional ranking of No. 4. The Owls improved to 13-8 on the season with Saturday's win, while UAB fell to 10-10 for the spring.
The Blazers close their regular season Sunday at Houston at 9:30 a.m. CT. UAB will then compete in the Conference USA Championships next week in Tulsa, Okla.
