BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB women's soccer team has set its slate for the spring season, and the lineup promises to give the Blazers a wealth of experience against quality opponents. UAB kicks off the exhibition season Thursday at 8 p.m., welcoming Samford at West Campus Field.
The Blazers will host SEC stalwarts Alabama and Ole Miss, Lee University and former UAB soccer player in an alumni match to complete the exhibition lineup.
"The 2010 spring schedule is extremely challenging," UAB head coach Paul Harbin said. "Playing two SEC teams, one of the top teams in the Southern Conference and the 2009 NAIA National Champions will give our players plenty of opportunities to grow and develop prior to next fall. It's also a great opportunity for local youth players and coaches to come out and experience the top level of college soccer."
UAB, which finished the 2009 campaign with an 11-7-3 record, returns to the pitch Saturday afternoon, when Alabama pays a visit at 4 p.m.
The Crimson Tide won't be UAB's only SEC test. Ole Miss comes to town April 10 at 1 p.m. The Rebels lost only two conference matches during the 2009 season.
UAB will also welcome the reigning NAIA National Champions in Lee University. The Lady Flames finished the 2009 campaign on a 21-game unbeaten streak, and they bring their talented team to Birmingham April 16 at 7 p.m.
The alumni game caps the action April 17 at 1 p.m., although the Blazers are working on adding another exhibition game to the spring slate.
