BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- UAB 2010 women's soccer signee C.J. Winship was named Mississippi's 2009-10 Miss Soccer by The Clarion-Ledger as announced on Friday. Winship, a goalkeeper for Ridgeland High School, led the Lady Titans to the state championship this year.
"I've enjoyed watching CJ develop over the last several years," UAB head coach Paul Harbin said. "She is a very talented, focused and determined young lady and has worked extremely hard to get where she is today. It's wonderful to see her efforts recognized with her selection as the top female soccer player in the entire state of Mississippi. It is a well deserved honor and we're thrilled that she'll be in a UAB uniform next fall as she takes the next step in her soccer and educational career."
The state title was the second for Winship and the Lady Titans in the last three years. Winship's defense proved key as she blanked West Jones and collected six saves en route to the Lady Titans' 1-0 win.
