Nakia McDaniel Named UAB Student-Athlete Of The Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Nakia McDaniel, a sophomore guard for the Blazer women's basketball team, has been named the UAB Student-Athlete of the Week.
McDaniel scored a season-high eight points Dec. 5 against Belmont, going 3-for-5 from the floor in just seven minutes of action. For the season, she is averaging 4.3 points per contest and has connected on five of nine 3-point attempts. For her career, she is a 48 percent 3-point shooter.
A standout in the classroom, McDaniel was one of 27 UAB student-athletes to earn the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal last year, and she also was named to the league's honor roll in her freshman campaign. The Moulton, Ala., product is a general studies major.
McDaniel and the women's basketball team (6-3) travel to Cancun, Mexico, for next week's Caribbean Classic. The Blazers will face Ball State on Monday and Illinois State on Tuesday with both games slated for 3:30 p.m. CT tip-offs.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally on ABC 33/40.
