UAB Women’s Basketball Preview: Cancun Challenge

BIRMINGHAM – UAB women's basketball is headed to Cancun, Mexico for the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 27-28. The Blazers will play Southern Miss at 5:30 CT on Thursday and No. 8 TCU on Friday at 5:30 CT.

LAST TIME OUT

Duffy (26 points), Carter (16 points), Armstead (13 points) and Smallwood (13 points) all scored in double figures to lead the UAB offense at Murray State.
UAB fell 91-79 against the Racers last Saturday.
Duffy registered a career-high 26 points and matched her career-best 12 rebounds to score her first double-double of the 2025-26 season.
Duffy reached 10 points in the first quarter and was 5-for-8 from the field.
Carter had a season-best five rebounds.
Armstead had a season-high 13 points and eight assists.
Duffy had 16 points in the first half to lead the Blazers.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN MISS AND TCU

Southern Miss and TCU are undefeated so far for the 2025-26 season.
Carly Keats leads the Golden Eagles with 15.2 points per game, while Meloney Thames is averaging 12.7 points and Jakayla Johnson has 11.8 points.
For TCU, Marta Suarez is averaging 19.0 points per game to lead the team, while Olivia Miles (18.3 points) and Donovyn Hunter (14.2 points) are following behind.
TCU made it to the Elite Eight last season but fell to Texas.

SERIES HISTORY

The Blazers face Southern Miss for the 72^nd time in program history.
Southern Miss leads the series 42-29.
The last matchup took place on Dec. 1, 2024, where the Blazers earned an 87-66 win.
This is the fifth time UAB has faced the Horned Frogs. TCU leads the series 4-0.
The last time the two teams faced each other was Jan. 16, 2005. The Horned Frogs earned a 75-34 win.
