Cape Completes Clean Sweep Through Singles Flight At UTC

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Jenny Cape continued her hot play Sunday, winning her singles flight and teaming with Giorgia Romeo to take the top doubles draw for the UAB women's tennis team on the final day of Chattanooga's Steve Baras Fall Classic.
Cape, the No. 4 seed in Flight 3, defeated second-seeded Agatha Palider of Kennesaw State 6-2, 6-0 in Sunday's championship match. The senior from Ontario was hardly tested this weekend, dropping only 11 games over her four matches and defeating the top two seeds in her flight on the way to the title.
Cape and Romeo were equally impressive on the doubles court, again taking out the top two seeds. The duo completed its run through Flight 1 on Sunday with an 8-6 victory over the No. 1-seeded tandem of Martina Dessbesell and Vivian Marani from Jacksonville State.
The two flight championships were the first of this fall season for UAB.
The Blazers also had a pair of players still active in consolation draws Sunday. After winning two matches on Saturday to stay alive, Caroline Faught (Flight 2) and Menanteau Moolman (Flight 3), each fell in the consolation finals of their draws. Faught lost to her flight's No. 2 seed, Marietta Bigus of Middle Tennessee.
Rachel Cohen also competed in the consolation finals of Flight 1 doubles with her partner, Wofford's Haley Baird. The duo lost to the second-seeded team of Middle Tennessee's Alex Dachos and Yuri Nomoto, who were sent into the back draw after an opening round loss to Romeo and Cape on Friday.
