BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB football team resumed its preparations for UCF with a two-hour afternoon practice on Saturday.
With a 10-day stretch between games, several members of the UAB coaching staff used the past two days for recruiting purposes while the team used that time to rest. The Blazers returned to their normal practice schedule on Saturday, working in full pads as if it was a Tuesday practice.
"We didn't start off well today today, but it did get better," head coach Neil Callaway said. "They weren't into it mentally, but we picked it up and practice ended up pretty good."
The Blazers will continue with normal workouts on Sunday and Monday in preparation for UCF. Callaway says one of the things they are focused on is preparing for UCF's dual quarterback situation. Knights' head coach George O'Leary said on Friday that he plans to play both freshman Jeff Godfrey and junior Rob Calabrese on Wednesday against UAB.
"You've got to process and get ready for two guys, and that makes things more difficult," Callaway said. "We'll have to be ready for both of them."
The Oct. 6 contest will kickoff at 8 p.m. ET (7 p.m. CT) at Bright House Networks Stadium in Orlando, Fla. Beth Mowins, David Norrie and Robert Smith will have the call for ESPN. The game will also be carried live on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in Birmingham on 107.7 WUHT-FM. David Crane, John Whitcomb and Otis Leverette will call the action with the pregame show beginning at 5:30 p.m. CT.
