Cape Moves Into Main Draw Finals At Baras Fall Classic

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- UAB women's tennis player Jenny Cape took out her flight's top seed Saturday to advance to Sunday's singles finals at Chattanooga's Steve Baras Fall Classic.
The fourth-seeded Cape dominated No. 1 seed Anouk Faure of Eastern Kentucky 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinal of the Flight 3 main draw, marking her third consecutive straight-set win at the event. She has dropped only nine total games through her three matches.
Cape also moved into the Flight 1 doubles finals with teammate Giorgia Romeo. The pair defeated Eastern Kentucky's Faure and Jessica Albuquerque 8-4 on Saturday.
The Blazers also found success in the singles consolation draws on day two in Chattanooga. Caroline Faught breezed to a pair of wins in the back draw of Flight 2, losing only two total games in her Saturday matches. Menanteau Moolman also won two contests in straight sets in Flight 3. Both players will compete in the consolation finals of their draws on Sunday.
In addition to Cape, Giorgia Romeo was also competing in a main draw semifinal match, but Romeo fell 6-3, 6-2 to Flight 1's top seed, Vera Shkundina of Kennesaw State.
UAB's Rachel Cohen lost in the consolation bracket of her singles flight but stayed alive in doubles. Cohen teamed with Haley Baird of Wofford for a Saturday win to move on to the consolation finals of the top doubles flight.
The Blazers' Flight 2 doubles team of Faught and Moolman was eliminated Saturday in the semifinals.
