BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced for approximately an hour and a half Wednesday morning at the UAB practice field. The Blazers (1-3, 1-1 C-USA) continued preparations for Thursday's matchup against C-USA foe Southern Miss (3-1, 1-0 C-USA) in shorts and helmets.
"It was a good practice," head coach Neil Callaway said. "We did a little more than we normally do on the day before a game. But, it's a short week and we have a ballgame tomorrow night, so we had to make adjustments."
Despite the short week of practice, the Blazers were fired up Wednesday morning as they hit the practice field for situational work.
"I think we're excited and ready to play," Callaway said. "Obviously we don't play until tomorrow, so hopefully we'll have that same energy when we hit the field Thursday night."
The UAB defense continued to game plan for a tough test against a strong Golden Eagles offense Thursday.
"We're going to have to make sure we carry out our responsibilities and get pressure on the quarterback," Callaway said. "They have a lot of weapons on offense, so we have to make sure we focus on our assignments."
Callaway named junior RB Justin Brooks as the offensive captain, junior DE Bryant Turner as the defensive captain and junior LB Caleb Dyck as the special teams captain for Thursday's matchup.
The Blazers and the Golden Eagles will kick off at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday at Legion Field. The game will be nationally televised on CBS College Sports.
In addition, the matchup will be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in the Birmingham area on flagship station WUHT-FM 107.7 with David Crane (play-by-play) and Jake Arians (color) on the call. The pregame show will begin 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
