BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- With the fall sports season just underway, senior women's soccer player Danielle Blair has been named the first UAB Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2009-10 academic year.
Blair, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, owns a perfect 4.0 GPA while triple majoring in industrial distribution, management and marketing. She was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team as a junior, topping her third-team recognition as a sophomore. She has earned the Conference USA Academic Medal and been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll in each of her three seasons.
On the field, Blair has played in 54 career games with 47 starts as a defender. She started all 20 games a season ago and has started both games of the young 2009 campaign. Blair helped UAB to a pair of shutout wins against SEC foes Alabama and Ole Miss over the weekend as the Blazers started the season 2-0.
The UAB Student-Athlete of the Week is highlighted each Sunday night on Blazers All-Access, which airs locally at 11:35 p.m. on ABC 33/40.
Blair and her women's soccer teammates are back in action Friday at 7 p.m. against Belmont and Sunday at 2 p.m. against Clemson. Both games will be played at UAB's West Campus Field.
