BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Dan Muns has been named the new assistant coach for the UAB women's soccer program, announced Blazers' head coach Paul Harbin. Muns comes to UAB with a plethora of experience in both high school and college coaching, including most-recently being at Columbus State University since 2004.
"We're extremely excited to have Dan join our staff," said Harbin. "We selected him from a very competitive pool of applicants for this position and we believe that he's one of the top young coaches in the country.
"Dan brings a wealth of championship coaching, management and recruiting experience with him from his years spent with head coach Jay Entlich at Columbus State. He also brings a great deal of quality life experience as a husband, father of three, teacher, youth coach and military leader representing the United States in Iraq."
Muns joined Columbus State's staff as an assistant coach in its inaugural season in 2004 and stayed throughout the 2008 campaign. However, he took an 18-month leave when he was called to serve a military tour in Iraq.
During his time at Columbus State, Muns helped the Cougars to four consecutive Peach Belt Conference titles and three league tournament championships. He was also a vital part of Columbus State winning the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional championship in 2007 and 2008.
In addition, the Cougars achieved honors off the field during Muns' tenure, including earning the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's (NSCAA) team academic award from 2006-08 and the Peach Belt Conference's Sportsmanship award in 2008.
Muns also has experience at the high school level, including a one-year stint as the head coach of the varsity boy's soccer team at Calvary Christian High School and one season with the varsity boy's team at Brookstone High School.
Muns currently holds a "C" license from the United States Soccer Federation and has a goalkeeper's license from the NSCAA.
Muns and his wife, Angela, have three children, Ashley, Harrison and Hayden.
"Not only are we excited to have Dan join us, but we are also looking forward to his wife Angela, and children Ashley, Harrison and Haden joining the UAB family as well," said Harbin.
