BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team practiced for approximately an hour and a half Thursday morning in shorts and helmets at the UAB practice field. The Blazers (2-4, 2-1 C-USA) continued working towards Saturday's important Conference USA contest against Marshall (4-2, 2-1 C-USA).
"[Today's practice] was just a rehearsal of everything, there wasn't a lot to it," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said. "We are just trying to make sure we have all of our assignments down and know what we're doing."
The Blazers will embark on their first C-USA road trip of the season when they travel to Huntington, W.Va. to take on the Thundering Herd Saturday. Both teams are currently tied for second place in the C-USA East Division.
Although UAB has been working hard to prepare for this week's matchup, Callaway believes that Marshall will provide a good test for them on both sides of the ball.
"Marshall's running game is their biggest strength offensively, and then defensively they bring a lot of pressure," Callaway said. "They always make you account for what they're doing, so it will be quite the challenge."
Callaway named senior QB Joe Webb and junior RB Justin Brooks as the offensive captains, senior DL David Decordova as the defensive captain and junior LB Caleb Dyck as the special teams captain for Saturday's matchup.
Saturday's game will kick off at Noon ET (11 a.m. CT) and will be televised by CSS. The game will also be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network and can be heard in the Birmingham area on flagship station WUHT-FM 107.7 with David Crane (play-by-play) and Jake Arians (color) on the call. The pregame show will begin 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
