Danya Barsalona Named Co-MVP Of UAB Nike Classic

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - UAB women's soccer junior forward Danya Barsalona was named Co-Most Valuable Player of the UAB Nike Classic that was held this past weekend. The Blazers had a total of four athletes on the All-Tournament team.
UAB (2-5) concluded the tournament as co-champions with the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Blazers defeated Wright State, 1-0, on Friday and also earned a 1-0 win over cross-town foe Samford on Sunday.
Alabama (3-2-1) defeated Samford 1-0 on Friday evening in Tuscaloosa, Ala., while also earning a 1-0 win over Wright State in double overtime on Sunday.
Barsalona garnered Co-MVP honors after knocking in the game-winning goal in the Blazers' win against Wright State. She also had an assist on freshman Tiffini Turpin's game-winner in Sunday's win over Samford. Barsalona shares the accolade with Alabama's Victoria Frederick.
Also earning a spot on the All-Tournament team for UAB was Turpin, sophomore midfielder Marie Yempuku and sophomore goalkeeper Kate Blankenship.
