UAB Places Second At South Collegiate Regionals

FAIRFAX, Va. - The UAB synchronized swimming team earned a second place finish in the South Collegiate Regionals on Sunday, finishing just behind Incarnate Ward and ahead of Florida. The Blazers garnered second place finishes in the solo, duet and team routines.
Junior Margareta Jakovac posted a score of 90.400 to finish second in the solo event, while freshman Talia Scatliff was third with a score of 87.900.
Jakovac then joined junior Meryl Grandia to place second in the duet routine with a score of 89.200. Senior Frances Halloran and freshman Brittany McCauley took third with a mark of 87.800.
In the trio event, Grandia, McCauley and freshman Shaina Boe were the Blazers' top finisher in third place with a score of 85.200. Freshmen Mikayla Cansler, Michele Rushfeldt and Jami Schwendau placed fourth competing as honorary participants.
The Blazers then captured second place in the team event with a score of 90.750 to mark the highest score of the season for the Blazers. Competing in the team routine for UAB were Boe, freshman Stephanie Cardwell, Halloran, Jakovac, freshman Georiga Luch, McCauley and Rushfeldt.
The Blazers will resume competition March 26-29 at the U.S. Collegiate Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
